Dolazak Australskog zbora Voices of Birralee

BACKGROUND: Voices of Birralee’s Western Front Anzac Centenary Touring Program

Voices of Birralee from Brisbane, Australia, will travel to Europe in 2019, with a special tour surrounding a performance at the Anzac Day service at the Australian National Memorial, near Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Anzac Day, on 25 April, is a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand, which commemorates the landing of the Anzacs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) in Gallipoli, Turkey in 1915. The day extends to also commemorate all men and women who served in WW1 and subsequent wars and conflicts. With 2015 - 2018 marking the centenary period of Australia’s involvement in the First World War, Voices of Birralee, led by Founder and Artistic Director Julie Christiansen OAM and Associate Director Paul Holley OAM, applied and was successful in a nationwide search via the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to provide choristers to sing at Anzac Day services from 2015 - 2019.

Following Voices of Birralee’s first tour, DVA invited the choir to also perform at centenary commemorations in both France and Belgium, including the Centenary of the Battles of Fromelles and Pozieres (July 2016), Polygon Wood (September 2017), Hamel (July 2018) and Armistice Day (November 2018). April 2019 will be the final tour of Voices of Birralee’s commitment, with 30 choristers to perform at the Anzac Day service, with the rest of the touring choristers participating in the commemoration as audience members and in battlefield tours to discover more about WW1.

Choristers to perform at this service are aged from 13 – 17 and have been selected from Voices of Birralee’s Brisbane Birralee Voices and Birralee Blokes ensembles. The choir will be conducted by Paul Holley and Jenny Moon.
